Gadlys smelting house by Ken Radcliffe with honeysuckle by Olwen dePrez
APRIL

Picture used for this month shows Gadlys smelting house painted by Ken Radcliffe with inset honeysuckle by Olwen dePrez The Poem used for this month is below:-

Hen Gadlys

Gadlys so full of history,
As its name in Welsh implied,
Where Henry, King of England
Came to fight and nearly died.
On a hill called Bryn Dychwelwch
Came the order to retreat,
It was Eleven Fifty Seven
And an Army faced defeat.

In the fury of the battle.
When neither side would yield,
The blood of Celt and Saxon
Stained red the battle field.
As we walk around the Gadlys
All signs of battle gone.
Remember those who fell here
Their duty sealed and done.
