PARTICULARS
The Property is situate at Bagillt, Flintshire, on the Holyhead Line of the L. & N. W. Railway, and about midway between Chester and Rhyl, and is connected by extensive Sidings with the Main Line of Railway.
It may safely be described as one of the very largest (if not the largest) coal properties in North Wales, embracing an area of 4,000 acres or thereabouts.
The Minerals are held under one Lease from the Trustees of the late Lord Hannier, and the Company will undertake to secure a Lease for 40 years from date of Sale. The fixed rent being £300 a year, merging into a Royalty which is threepence per ton on Sales.
There are two Shafts sunk on the property to a depth of 290 yards. One shaft being 17ft. finished, and the other l0ft. 6in. finished- Both shafts are tubbed through the water bearing strata and lined with best bricks through other strata Five seams of coal have been proved and worked, viz -5 yard or main seam, 9 to 13 feet thick; 3 yard, 6 feet thick; 1 yard, 3 feet thick; 2 yard, ~& feet thick; and 5 feet, 2~ feet thick and the 4 feet seam, which lies about 25 to 80 yards below 5 feet, has been worked in the adjoining collieries, and may safely be said to exist in this property. These seams giving in the aggregate from 80 to 34 feet of coal.
It is estimated that the demised area contains considerably over 100 million tons of unworked coal; the present output being at the rate of about 150,000 tons a year, which can be largely increased by a little expenditure in development.
Very little water is met with in the Colliery, nearly the whole of which runs to shaft and is pumped- by two small pumps of 15in. cylinders by l0in, stroke, with 5in, rams. One of these is at pit bottom and forces the water 100 yards up the shaft to water lodge, and the other is fixed in lodge and forces water to surface.
The Colliery is ventilated by a 82 feet Rammel Fan.
There are 11 Cottages and a Stable included in Lease of mines, and the Company own 11 Leasehold Cottages for an unexpired term of l9 years The yearly rents of former amount to £49 Os. Od. and the latter to £85 16s. Od.
There are no surface wayleaves. The surface is held under three leases and two agreements, and the yearly rents in the aggregate amount to £46 Os 0d., in this being included a Shipping Wharf, which has only been in operation about I8 months.
The No. 1, or Winding Shaft is fitted with wire guides (4 to each cage), and the present cages draw three tubs at a time. There are two new cages ready for drawing six trains at a time.
The Head Gear is very massive and of pitchpine, with 14 feet pulleys.
The Workshops which comprise Smith's, Carpenter's and Fitting Shops and Saw Mill are fitted with the usual Machinery for Colliery purposes.
The Engine Houses, Store Rooms, Lamp Room, Saddler's Shop, Office and other Buildings are of a very substantial kind.
The Stable contains 9 Stalls, with Loose Box and Coach House. and above is the Store Room for Oats, Hay, &c.
There arc 24 Coke Ovens of the Beehive type, all in working order.
One Robinson Washing Machine for 100 totns a day.
