Bettisfield Colliery by Ron Hambly
FEBRUARY

To the left is the Bettisfield Colliery painted by Ron Hambly, to the right a Stoat painted by Ron Plummer. The Poem used for this month is below:-

Stoat by Ron Plummer
Bagillt

So silent now this place once filled with noise,
Belching chimneys now removed.
No more the Clog shod boys.
Docks and ore works now the distant past,
Plundered coal seams costing blood,
Like the Miners, did not last
Riches made by heartless owners who
With pittance, hardship they called pay
To the men who went to hew.

Gone the characters, and village shop with 'tick',
Singing voices seldom heard,
No more the Bobbies stick,
A modern village, foundations build on pride,
New bricks and tile can not erase
Where old Bagillt died.
